  • Frozen Home-Dried Bananas – a Treat!

Since we switched to organic bananas,  we had had far less of them go past the desirable stage to over-ripeness.  This is because they are not ripened by ethylene oxide.  The best  solutions  for not wasting those few we don’t get eaten in time  are  to freeze them for smoothies or dry them. When we buy dried bananas in the store either plain or in a trail mix,  they are usually crisp...

  • Best Burgers Yet

Here is another raw vege-burger recipe.  I’ve been enjoying the first rendition,  but decided to alter it a bit for variety.  This one is similar,  but not. 2 cups pecan meal 1 pound portobello mushrooms, finely chopped 1/2 pound button mushrooms, finely chopped 1-1/2 onions,  finely chopped 2 T.  Beaf Seasoning, by Bill’s Best 1/2 t sea salt 1/2 cup dried kale, crumbled 3 T flax...

  • Cinnamon Apple Bread – Raw Style

This hit the spot one day, & was easy to make.  Try it, you will like it! 2 cups flax meal 2 apples 2 T cinnamon 2 cups water 1/2 t salt Spread out on your Teflexx  sheets,  and dehydrate for four hours.  Depending on the thickness,  it may take longer.    Great with nut butter or cashew frosting.

  • Muir Glen Ketchup – No BPA in the Bottle...

My very favorite ketchup  (it’s not raw) is Muir Glen Organic.   I was concerned because of the BPA/plastics  controversy,  & somehow thought that #7 bottles contained BPA.  So I contacted Muir Glen with my question, thinking they must need to change the bottle.  I was surprised to learn that their #7 bottle doesn’t contain BPA at all!  They went into a lengthy description of...

  • New Favorite: Raw Portobello Mushrooms Burgers

I’ve tried some of the burger recipes out there,  & though I thought they had good flavor  I  aimed to come up with something with more texture.  This seems to work out well. 3 cups portabello mushrooms, chopped fine 2 cups pecan meal  (coarser than flour) 2 large organic carrots,  chopped finely 1 tsp. sea salt 2 Tablespoons Bill’s Best Beaf Seasoning 1/4 c. fresh parsley, chopped 1/4...

  • Food, Inc. A Robert Kenner Film

I just finished watching Food, Inc.    If you haven’t yet,  you should.    There are so many aspects to what we should be eating  & the reasons why or why not,  & this film addresses many of them. If you are considering going vegan or vegetarian & haven’t just yet,  this film will help you with your decision.   It’s disturbing to see how animals are treated in...

  • Lively Carrot Cake — Raw Food Method

This smelled great for the whole 36 hour "cooking" time Someone on Facebook was talking about being hungry for Carrot Cake,  & one of her friends responded with a great-sounding recipe.   So that got me thinking about the possibilities for a “live” version.  This is what I came up with: In a large bowl,  mix these together: 4 large organic carrots, coarsely grated 1/2...
